Postmodernism: Hyperreality Research
Postmodernism
A style and concept in the arts characterised by a distrust of theories and ideologies and by drawing of attention to conventions.- dictionary meaning
Media reality has become the new reality. (blurs media representation and reality)
For instance some examples are: Instagram (a photo is taken of a real image and then edited)
Reality shows (parts are scripted for entertainment).
Postmodern media rejects the idea that any media product or text is any greater value than another.
Within postmodernism there is no ultimate truth, just arguments and representations of the truth. Which means that the representations we do see are just the winning truth.
We now live in a reality defined by images and representations (state of simulacrum).
We now live in a reality defined by images and representations (state of simulacrum).
Founders:
Lyotard and Baudrillard were the founders of the postmodern movement.
Lyotard’s theory: texts or images can never accurately reproduce reality or truth.
Baudrillard’s theory: there is only the surface meaning: there is no longer any 'original' thing for a sign to represent. We inhabit a society made up wholly of simulacra.
Hyperreality:
Hyperreality is a text that is said to be intertextual and self referential, as they break the rules of realism to explore the nature of their own status as constructed texts (represent media reality).

Postmodernism:Smurfs 1958-2014

2014 Smurfs Village Game
Nothing New/Nothing Original-The smurfs has elements of nothing new/nothing original because it went from a tv series to comic books to over 10 games and 2 films, this may be seen as repetitive for the audience.
Generic Hybridisation-The smurfs have generic hybridity as their films and comics and tv series are a mixture of Action, Adventure and Humour.
Intertextuality- The smurfs have alot of intertextual references in the film from other texts such as "lord of the rings". 1 intertextual reference in the film is when the character of smurffet says the line "I kissed a smurf and I liked it". This is a clear reference to the song "I kissed a girl and I liked it" by the Katy Perry. There is also a scene where a character of smurffet wears a new dress which is blown up by the wind, this is a clear reference to the famous scene done by Marilyn Monroe. There are also references to Mary Poppins when a smurf jumps of the bridge and uses her hat as a parachute.

The Auditions For Hot Shots
This episode is also very media based because it sort of reflects the worl that we live in at the moment, the fact that everyone relies on media. The only way to escape is to become famous on hot shots in prder for the, to focus on something else even thoug the media is still involved.
Episode 3: The Entire History Of You

Cutting out his memory chip
This episode is about a memory card which is placed in the head which allows you to replay any of your memories.
My opinion is that we all wished we could replay our memories but only the good ones and in this episode that is not the case, people become obsessed in replaying and it becomes out of hand, people also use it to prove points from the past.
